Is there any reason why no reference is made to the 'vocabulary' of a programming language?
I'm not familiar with a technical meaning for ``vocabularly'' in the programming language business, and I don't find it in the index for the text. Perhaps you can explain your question a bit more.

The intuitive analogy in programming languages to natural-language vocabulary is the set of keywords. For example, if and do are keywords in C and C++.
