Question Question about file extensions and emacs

Are there file extensions that can be used under emacs that will automatically give the right environment for each of the languages we are using this quarter? I know the one for C and Prolog; it seems if you use .prolog and .c under emacs you are given the right context. What about Scheme and ML?
